This Wednesday evening, I’ll discuss my zero-waste kitchen in a webinar for the University of Southern California’s chapter of the Food Recovery Network and you can watch the talk live on YouTube. You don’t need to register; simply click on this link at 7pm Wednesday.

In my talk, I’ll cover:

  • Stats on food waste in the US
  • Some of the reasons we waste so much food
  • How I shop to eliminate packaging waste
  • How I prep and store food
  • How I use up everything to avoid food waste

I would have liked to have given people more notice of this live stream but I worked out the technology kinks only this past weekend. I plan to do more of these in the future though. I hope you can watch!

  1. Sounds great. I’m assuming that’s 7pm Pacific Time?

    Hello,

I wrote a comment on your yoghurt blog recently and we wound up talking about sauerkraut. You’ve talked me into it! I am also trying to convince a friend of mine to start her own blog. As an incentive, we gave each other a deadline to write a small article. I have done mine on sauerkraut and I mention your blog in it. I do not have a blog and don’t plan to have one, so this is just for fun. Perhaps you’ll enjoy reading what sauerkraut does to your readers!

Thank you for your blog. It makes me laugh, think and do. Perfect combination!

    Cheers,

    Bernadette

    1. Hi Bernadette. That’s wonderful you made sauerkraut and wrote about it. Do you want to send me what you wrote? annemarie@zerowastechef.com. That’s the best compliment you could give me by the way, that you laugh, think and do. That makes my night 🙂 ~ Anne Marie

    Enjoyed your talk tonight.
I recently bought a bottle of unpasteurized kombucha and started my own scoby. It grew just fine, so now we are waiting for our first batch of kombucha! I am rather excited and have to show my scoby to anybody who comes into the house. 🙂
And the reason they say not to put bones or meat scraps in your compost pile is that they draw critters who will tear up your pile to get at the meat scraps. However, since you’re removing all flesh from the bones, you shouldn’t have much of a problem. In my case, my chickens are always tearing into my compost pile looking for tidbits anyway, so what’s the difference? I just rake the scattered bits up once in a while and throw it back on the pile.

    1. Thank you so much for listening Suzanne! I’m glad you enjoyed it. That’s great about your scoby! Have you thought up a name for it?

    2. Oh I didn’t see your whole comment on here for some reason, and now I do. Strange… Anyway, well we do have an opossum that visits my compost pile. My kids named him Richard Nixon (I have no idea why). I think he’s an omnivore 😉 I would rather have your chickens visit though. I bet they are cute even when ransacking your compost pile.

  4. Hi Zero-Waste Chef, unfortunately I missed the live stream! Sounds like a perfect idea, can you tell me when there will be new stream?

    1. Hi Christ, you can watch the recording of the webinar here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXNU3YeZtH4

I’m doing two more webinars, one on April 27 at 6pm PT on sourdough starter and one on May 25 at 6pm PT on fermentation. You can find more info here: https://zerowastechef.com/2016/03/30/two-upcoming-free-webinars/ I plan on scheduling more of these. I’ll try to figure that out soon.

  5. Thank you very much! I’ll stay tuned.
