Free Fermentation Webinar: Saturday, January 10, 2015

Fermentationwrksp-1-scaled

If you read my blog at all, you may be thinking one of the following:

1. Fermentation sounds revolting. Why does she keep going on about it?

2. OMG. I love fermentation. I named my sourdough starter [insert name].

3. I have never tried fermentation and would like to but it scares me. I don’t want to poison my family.

I teach a fermentation class here in Northern California but since most of my readers live far from me, I’ve decided to teach a session online. In this webinar, I’ll demonstrate how to make sauerkraut and I’ll try to answer your fermentation questions, including:

Is fermentation safe? Yes. I’ll explain why.

How do I know if my ferment is ready? For many ferments, simply have a taste. If you like the flavor, it’s ready.

How long should I ferment my food? It depends on how strong you want the flavor.

Do I need to buy fancy equipment? I’ll show you the simple tools I use, which work well. (But if someone buys me this crock for Christmas, I won’t complain.)

Are fermented foods healthy? Yes, they are very healthy. I’ll talk a bit about that too.

The online demo will take place in a Google Hangout—a group video chat for a maximum of 10 people (nine of you plus me). You will need a Google account to join. If you don’t have an account, you can get one here.

Not sure fermented foods are for you? Here are 5 reasons to eat them.

UPDATE: I have more classes scheduled. You can view the list and register here.

  1. Wish I could attend. Maybe when you come back to Canada you can treat us to one of your workshops. I will be the first in line.

    1. Heehee. I don’t think you would have to go far for that workshop. The farm I wrote about is near the Glenora ferry 🙂
