Not My Mother’s Blog

photo 2

This is my daughter’s new blog 🙂 She had started the blog The Plastic-Free Chef when she was 16, but wanted to write something different, so I took over (stole?) that idea and she launched this new blog yesterday. MK cleaned our filthy bathroom sink yesterday with her homemade cleanser so I can attest to its effectiveness. I think I’ll request that she try to make window cleaner for her next post :p

AH! This popped up in my feed and I wondered if you had changed blog names. Now it makes sense.

The MSDS sheets on both Borax and your Washing soda suggest prompt medical attention and calling poison control for ingestion and eye contact. Inhalation is also a known issue with both products.

It’s cheap and doesn’t come in a can, but the chemicals can harm the environment (have you ever watered a plant with borax and washing soda?) and it probably ought to have a warning label.

    Borax: https://www.omsi.edu/sites/all/FTP/files/kids/Borax-msds.pdf
    Washing soda: http://householdproducts.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/household/brands?tbl=brands&id=3005022

The health ratings and concerns are generally on par with commercial cleaning products, this just isn’t a safer product.

    1. Hmmm. I have looked up washing soda in the past on the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep database and didn’t think it was as bad as most cleaning products. I’ll check out your links though. Thanks.
